Over the course of the 2009 season, the Roger Williams University women’s volleyball team compiled an overall record of 21-10 and won its first conference title since 1998.  In their title run, the Hawks defeated the University of New England, upset the top-seeded Gulls from Endicott College, and then upset the number two seed Western New England College in the CCC Finals.  Roger Williams is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s history.

At the end of the regular season, the team established a conference record of 8-2 which put it in a tie for third with Colby-Sawyer behind Endicott and WNEC.  The tiebreaker went to Colby-Sawyer as the Chargers won the head-to-head matchup in a five-game match, and the Hawks were seeded fourth.  This made things a bit harder as they hosted the first round but were forced to travel for the semis and finals matches against Endicott and WNEC.  Endicott had only lost to one conference opponent all year, and the Hawks were able to do the same thing they had done in the previous meeting between the schools, winning three games to none.  The finals also went RWU’s way as the Hawks won in four games over the Golden Bears from WNEC.

The team had five members receive All-Conference recognition.  Freshman Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) was named the CCC Rookie of the Year and senior Kristina Dolan (Glenmont, N.Y.) was named to the All-CCC First Team.  Receiving second team honors were Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and the runner up for CCC Libero of the Year, Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.).  Receiving CCC Honorable Mention recognition were Lebowitz and sophomore Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, Mass.).  As a team, the Hawks led the Commonwealth Coast Conference in hitting percentage, and Dolan was the individual conference leader in that category as well.
