The New York University women's soccer team ended its back-to-back match weekend with a dominant 3-0 win over University of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, September 20, in Newark, NJ.
"Back-to-back games so I thought we weren't as sharp as we wanted to be, but it's a good dub," said Head Coach Scott Waddell. "They tried to make it difficult on us so we're happy with the win."
The Violets kicked off the match with a bang just 90 seconds into play. Meredith Theis slipped a ball to Tusca Mahmoudpour who sent a rocket into the top left of the goal to put the Violets up on the board.
Lily Smoley generated several opportunities for the Violets with her best attempt coming in the 34th minute sending a shot high right that Kaitlyn Grady was able to save for the Dolphins.
In the final seconds of the first half, the dolphins recorded their first shot on-goal which Mia Capo was able to easily collect for the Violets.
The Violets doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Marlee Scanlon received a pass from Theis. Scanlon dodged around a defender before tucking the ball into the bottom right of the net.
Four minutes latter Allie Wall added to another to the tally for the Violets. Carmen Cicerini passed off a ball to Jodie Loturco who crossed it perfectly to the foot of Wall.
"Tusca (Mahmoudpour) has loads of talent, so it was good to see her score," added Waddell. "And of course, Marlee (Scanlon) is a goal scorer. It's good for her to get off the mark as well. And then, I was really happy for Allie (Wall). She's been so good this year and has been great for the team."
They didn't let up on the ball, getting off a few more shots before the clock winded down to a 3-0 win.
The Violets defense kept the Dolphins out and have now recorded five clean sheets in their six matches.
NYU out-shot MSV 27-6, 13-3 on-goal.
Smoley led the Violets with five shots while Mahmoudpour, Theis, and Natalie Chan followed with four each.
Capo made three saves in goal.
The Violets hit the road for their next game when they travel to Wayne, NJ, on Saturday, September 26, where they will take on William Paterson University. Kickoff is set for 5pm.
