The New York University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 road victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, September 19, in Hoboken, NJ.
"We had a great team performance against a very, very good Stevens team," said Head Coach Kim Wyant. "I was quite pleased that we were able to shut them out."
The Violets managed the game's only goal in the 11th minute. Luke Vilary found the back of the net with a header into the upper-right corner off an assisted goal kick from Keyon Namdar, giving NYU the only score of the afternoon.
NYU continued to apply pressure in the attacking third while remaining composed defensively throughout the rest of the opening half. The Violets entered the break with five shots on goal while holding the Ducks to just one attempt, which Gabino Talisayon turned away to preserve NYU's 1-0 advantage at halftime.
The Violets carried their defensive effort through the second half to secure the 1-0 victory and another shutout. NYU outshot Stevens 15-6 over the course of the match, while Talisayon finished the night with two saves to keep the Ducks off the scoreboard and complete the clean sheet.
"We were able to withstand a momentum shift in the second half," Wyant added. "We created some really good goal-scoring opportunities. Their keeper came up big a couple of times to keep the game close."
The Violets will return to action on Tuesday 7:00 PM, September 22, when they welcome Vassar College to Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
