The New York University softball team was swept in its doubleheader against Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, April 3, in St. Louis, MO.
The Violets were held scoreless in both games, dropping both by identical 8-0 scores.
NYU managed to put a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings of game one, but could not bring anyone home.
With the Bears ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the third, WashU extended its lead with three more runs in the inning.
The Violets went down in order in the final three frames, while the Bears posted a three-run bottom of the fifth to clinch the run-rule win.
WashU continued its momentum into the backend of the doubleheader by scoring five runs in the bottom of the second.
NYU totaled six baserunners in the game with three reaching scoring position.
The Bears went on to tally three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the Violets scoreless through five frames to complete another run-rule victory.
Nicole Cicchetti batted 2-for-4 on the day with a walk.
NYU will close out its series against the Bears with a game tomorrow at 3:00pm Eastern Time.
