The #7-ranked New York University men's volleyball team completed a sweep of Elmira College on Sunday, March 29, in Elmira, NY. The Violets have officially clinched a UVC postseason tournament berth.
The Violets won the sets by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.
The Violets opened the match 3-0 featuring a block from Cade Miller and Emerson Evans. An ace from Charlie Clifford brought the lead to 20-15. Elmira held the Violets to four set-points but, NYU was able to take the set.
Set two proved to be a close one with the teams tying 12 times with multiple lead changes. Tied at 18-18 the Violets began to inch away with the set building up the lead to 23-21. Artyom Derkach dished up a kill to bring it to 24. Veer Agarwal added another kill right down the middle to seal the set.
The Violets opened the final set with a 4-1 scoring run and never lost the lead. Elmira brought it within two, 18-16, but, the Violets ran away with it. A block from Miller and Evans and back-to-back kills from Derkach finished off the set.
The Violets will conclude the regular season against Vassar College on Wednesday, April 1, at 7:00pm in Poughkeepsie, NY.
