In a battle of top-10 teams, the #-7 ranked New York University men's volleyball team was defeated by #8 SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, March 25, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The United Volleyball Conference (UVC) contest went four sets, with the visitors claiming a 25-15, 16-25, 25-20, 25-21 victory.
The first two sets were in stark contrast as the Hawks easily took the first one and the Violets were just as dominant in the second.
The third set did not resemble the previous twol, as the teams stayed within two points of each other for the majority of play.
However, New Paltz was ahead 17-16 when they scored the next three points and ended the set on an 8-4 run.
The final set was tied 5-5 when New Paltz went on a 6-1 streak and held the lead the rest of the way.
Trailing by seven at 21-14, a 7-3 Violets' streak got them within three.
But, a Hawks' kill ended the match.
Emerson Evans led NYU with 15 kills.
Charlie Clifford added 12 kills and a team-high three service aces.
Devyn Nguyen led the Violets with 45 assists.
The Violets return to action this weekend for a pair of UVC matches. NYU will play at Hobart College at 2:00pm on Saturday and at Elmira College at 1:00pm on Sunday.
