NYU Drops Doubleheader Against Russell Sage

The Violets Open Their Spring Break Trip in Florida

The New York University baseball team (1-4) lost two games on Saturday, March 14, at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The first game featured an epic ninth inning NYU comeback that just fell short, and in the second game, the Russell Sage College Gators (6-2) led throughout in sweeping the Violets.

Game 1: Russel Sage 12-11

An incredible ninth inning comeback for NYU fell just short despite eight runs scored in the final frame.

The Violets got off to a tough start in Florida as Russell Sage scored four runs in the top of the first highlighted by a two-run home run by Jayden Kennedy.

The Gators scored another three runs in the second and two in the fourth to widen their lead to nine.

NYU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Kosta Mocklis hit his 12th career home run. A two-run double from Mason Clark to cut into Russell Sage's lead.

Carsten Kaiser pitched two scoreless innings in relief, but then Russell Sage scored three runs in the seventh.

Trailing 12-3 heading into bottom of the ninth, Dominic Holton started NYU's ninth inning rally reaching on a fielder's choice and knocking in a run in the process. The next batter, Mason Clark sent a shot over the fence for two more Violet runs.

After three straight walks, Harrison Blueweiss singled to third base, scoring one Violet. Mocklis came through in the clutch with his second career grand slam, pulling the Violets within one.

The Violets were unable to score another run in a heartbreaking loss.

Game 2: Russel Sage College 15-5

Russell Sage got off to another hot offensive start in game two scoring a total of nine runs in the first two innings.

NYU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Matt Dahl singled with the bases loaded to score a run. A two-run double from Aidan Howladar made the score 9-3.

Blueweiss added another RBI to his day when he grounded out to second to make it 9-4.

NYU's last run came when Holton hit an RBI in the eighth.

The Gators cushioned their lead with another two-runs in the ninth to end the game with a 15-5 win.

Notable Stats:

  • Blueweiss had RBI's in both games in his return to his hometown
  • Mocklis now has four home runs this season which leads the UAA
