The No. 15-ranked New York University wrestling team hosted the Bridgewater State University Bears and the United States Coast Guard Academy Bears for a tri-meet on Alumni Day on Saturday, February 7, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The Violets earned a victory over Bridgewater State 47-10 before falling to No. 21-ranked Coast Guard 23-19.
NYU delivered a dominant performance in the opening dual, claiming eight of 10 bouts, including six victories by fall.
At 149 pounds, John Mairano recorded a fall at 1:21, while Alexander Kaufmann followed with a 21-second fall at 157 pounds. Nicky Bell added another pin at 2:38 in the 165-pound bout.
At heavyweight, Nathan Faxon closed out the dual with a fall at the 1:24 mark to secure the final margin for the Violets.
Against No. 21-ranked Coast Guard, the Violets opened strong, highlighted by a technical fall victory from Alexander Diaz at 125.
At 149 pounds, James Carlock gave the Violets the lead with a decision victory.
Ty Finn earned a victory at 174 pounds, and Justin Mayes secured his second win of the day with a major decision at 184.
Mo Talebi extended the Violets' lead with his second victory of the day at 197, giving the Violets momentum heading into the final bout.
However, Coast Guard won the final bout to secure the victory.
The Violets return to action next Saturday, February 14, when they host the UAA Championship beginning at 5:00pm at the Paulson Center.
