Men's Soccer Caps Non-Conference Slate with Shutout over Mount Saint Vincent

Orozco Scores Two in Victory

The New York University men's soccer team closed out its non-conference slate on Wednesday, Oct. 14, hosting the University of Mount Saint Vincent (UMSV) Dolphins at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.

The Violets blanked the visiting Dolphins, 3-0.

"It felt to good to see our team score goals tonight, and always happy to for our team to get the win and shutout," said head coach Kim Wyant

NYU opened the scoring in the sixth minute, as Tim Brdaric slotted the team's first goal away on the feed from Eric Wainer.

The hosts continued to challenge UMSV's backline throughout the opening 45 minutes, totaling 13 shots and four of them on target.

Fabio Orozco doubled the Violet advantage in the final ten minutes of the first half, putting one past the Dolphin keeper off the rebound of a Lazar Mijatovic blocked shot.

UMSV's picked up off their offensive pressure in the opening ten minutes of the final half, challenging new keeper Jackson McCloskey twice in that span.

The Violets answered back soon after, as Orozco secured a brace in the 63rd minute with his head, off the cross from Julian Recio.

The 3-0 scoreline held to the final whistle, with NYU improving to 8-2-1 on the season.

Orozco led all players with 2 goals, while Recio, Wainer and Mark Shields all finished with an assist each. McCloskey finished the second half with two saves, while starting keeper Gabino Talisayon recorded the clean sheet in the first half.

NYU continues its home stand on Saturday, Oct. 17, as they host University Athletic Associate foe, Emory University, at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, NJ. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 AM.
