The New York University men's soccer team, ranked #20 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, returned to the field on Saturday, October 10, for the Violets' first road contest against University Athletic Association competition this season.
NYU traveled to Western New York to face the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium, but dropped the UAA opener 1-0.
Neither side posed a significant offensive challenge in the first half, combining for just six shots and two saves. Both stops by Gabino Talisayon in the opening 45 minutes were his lone saves of the match.
The Violets picked up the offense in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, logging six shots before the 60-minute mark.
Rochester changed the tenor of the game just 10 minutes later, as the host Yellowjackets were awarded a penalty shot in the 71st minute. In a battle for possession at the top corner of the Violets' 18-yard box, Kaan Akturan was called for a foul while tangled up with Rochester's Johnny Makula.
Milos Bisenic stepped up to the penalty spot and chipped the ball home to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
NYU held possession for the majority of the final 15 minutes, pushing the ball into the attacking third as often as possible. However, the visitors could not find the equalizer despite multiple on-target attempts. Eric Wainer and Edward Wester each tallied a shot on goal, while Keyon Namdar totaled three shots, leading all Violets. Talisayon finished with the two saves.
NYU returns home for its final non-conference, and midweek, contest, hosting the University of Mount Saint Vincent at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ, on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7:00 PM.
