Women’s Swim and Dive Victorious Over Johns Hopkins in Final Dual Meet of the Season

Violets Honored 2025 National Champions and Seniors

The #2-ranked New York University women's swimming and diving team emerged with a win in its final dual meet of the season on Saturday, January 17.

The Violets dispatched #19 Johns Hopkins, 199-62 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-1 (3-0 vs. Division III teams) on the season in dual meets.

"The team came out strong right away, especially in the 200 medley relay, and set the tone for the rest of the meet," said Swimming Head Coach Trevor Miele. "The energy on the pool deck was exactly what you want on Senior Day."

Prior to the meet, NYU honored the team's 13 outgoing seniors and the team's individual national champions from the 2025 season.

The Violets started the meet with a win, taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. The NYU "A" relay team (Maeve O'Donnell, Babette Bradley, Andrea Wu, Kaley McIntyre) took first with a 1:44.83 time.

In the first distance race of the day, Aanya Wala (10:28.21) led a trio of Violets in the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle. Wala finished just ahead of Bethany Spangler (10:38.34) and Alice Ciobanu (10:58.11).

Kaley McIntyre scored her first win of the meet in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:51.79. Emery Muller took second place with a 1:53.51 time.

NYU finished first and third in the 100 backstroke, with Nicole Ranile (57.25) taking first and Eloise Emig (58.23) taking third.

Babette Bradley (1:05.78) touched first in the 100 breaststroke race, ahead of teammates Sammy Wong (1:06.01) and Kate Steinmeier (1:07.93) who finished in second and third.

In the 200 butterfly competition, Reina Gomez (2:04.76) finished six seconds ahead of the field. Fellow NYU swimmer Lina Wordelman (2:10.77) took second.

O'Donnell scored her second victory of the day in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 23.93. Lian Jeong Engle (24.24) scored second place.

McIntyre (51.25) topped the leaderboard again in the 100 freestyle, with Jeong Engle (52.28) also taking second in this sprint.

Emig (2:04.15) was the Violets' top finisher in the 200 backstroke, finishing in second place.

In the 200 breaststroke, Wong (2:21.82) edged out Bradley (2:22.04) for the win by less than 20 milliseconds.

Llew Ladomirak (5:03.65) took first in the 500 freestyle, her first time swimming the race as a Violet. Wala (5:05.43) took second.

Gomez doubled up her butterfly wins in the 100 yard race, taking first in 57.04 seconds. Ranile (58.45) took second.

Emig got her first win of the day in the 200 individual medley, going wire-to-wire with a 2:11.42 time.

The Violets capped off the day with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. The NYU "A" relay (Ranile, Wu, Muller, McIntyre) pulled ahead in the final leg to win with a 3:31.04 time.

Before the start of competition, the diving team competed in an solo exhibition as part of the dual meet. Meera Kasturi set a new one-meter (six dive) program record with a 334.85 final score. She took first, with Maya Williams (285.25) taking second place in her first meet of the season.

Kasturi just missed the one-meter record (349.73) but took first overall. Williams placed second with a 303.23 score.

"It was a good Senior Day for the Violets," said Diving Head Coach Todd Kolean. "Meera continues to impress with a record-breaking day and Maya performed well in first meet since returning from studying abroad."

NYU travels to Cambridge, MA, on Friday, Jan. 23, for a tri-meet against the hosts, #5-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology and #8-ranked Williams College. Diving competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the swim competition to follow at 2:00 p.m.
