Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Rochester

Violets Close Out UAA Round Robin #1 With Dominant Win

The New York University women's volleyball team closed out the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 with its second win of the weekend, defeating the University of Rochester 3-0 on Sunday, September 28, in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets trailed just once in the first set. In front 14-10, NYU scored four straight points to to take its largest lead of the frame. Though the Yellowjackets managed to cut the deficit to four, trailing 22-18, the Violets won three of the next five points to close out the set.

The second stanza saw NYU get out to a 10-6 lead before Rochester used an 8-2 run to pull ahead 14-12. Trailing 16-13, the Violets jumped back out in front with four consecutive points. With the score later tied 19-19, NYU ended the set with a 6-1 run.

The Violets led for the entirety of the third set and went on to close out the match comfortably. NYU led by as much as 10 in the frame, up 20-10. After Rochester staved off three consecutive match points, Sarah Lateran clinched the contest with a kill.

"I thought we did a good job every time Rochester began to close the gap in focusing on strategic adjustment and closing out each set strong," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "The third set had us locked in and putting a lot of pressure on our opponent."

Grace Nelson posted a team-high 13 kills on 30 total attacks. Both Kaitlyn Sato and Chloe Lemons tallied nine digs. At the net, Chloe Hynes racked up seven blocking assists.
 

"I'm really proud of this group for the hard work they put in both physically and mentally this weekend," added Brown. "Coming away from a UAA round robin two and one shows the level of investment and talent all across the board on our team."


NYU will next take on William Smith College on home court on Saturday, October 4, at 11am at the John A. Paulson Center.
