Baseball Sweeps WashU in Sunday Doubleheader

Violets Split Final Home UAA Series

The New York University baseball team ended the final home University Athletic Association (UAA) series of the season on a high note on Sunday, April 13.

The Violets held WashU to just one run through the weekend-ending doubleheader. Playing seven innings in both games due to time constraints, the Violets swept the Bears, 3-0, 5-2.

The Violets struck first in game one, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. Nate Pallotta connected on a ball to right field with the bases loaded, scoring two runs.

Pallotta delivered again in the fifth inning, driving in a run to improve the NYU advantage to 3-0.

Pallotta and Harrison Blueweiss each logged two hits, with Pallotta leading all hitters with three RBIs.

The NYU pitchers held WashU to just two hits. Paul Guerne totaled nine strike outs through his five innings of work, allowing just two walks. He improves to 2-0 on the season.

Aidan Dolinsky scores his second save of the season, recording two strikeouts and allowing one hit in two innings.

NYU was on the board first in game two as well. The Violets loaded the bases and CJ Franchini flew out to right field, scoring one run to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

WashU tied the game in the top of the third inning, but the Violets answered back in the bottom of the inning.

With runners on the corners, the Bears' throw to catch Cam Dunn stealing went past the glove of the WashU second baseman. The error allowed one run in from third to retake the lead, 2-1.

Connor Roggero doubled the Violets run total two batters later, driving a ball deep to center field and scoring two runs.

CJ Franchini rounded out the scoring in the third inning with an RBI single that brought Roggero home.

WashU put forth their best effort to attempt to catch the Violets in the top of the seventh inning. The Bears loaded the bases with two outs, and drove in a run on a hard hit ground ball to left field.

Dolinsky, pitching for the second straight game, forced the final out by getting Cooper Greene to ground out.

Jacob Magna (1-2) scored his first win of the season on the mound; lasting five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits.

The Violets travel to Cleveland for their penultimate UAA series next weekend to face Case Western Reserve April 18-20.
