Trailing 6-4 in the first quarter, the top-seeded and undefeated New York University women's basketball team ran off 21 straight points and cruised to an 83-45 victory over Trinity College (CT) in the second round of the Division III NCAA Championship Tournament on Saturday, March 8, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The 27-0 Violets forced Trinity into eight turnovers during that 21-point streak.
NYU's defensive pressure was evident throughout, as they held the Bantams to .327 (17-for-52) shooting for the game and forced a total of 36 turnovers.
NYU's 58-game winning streak is now tied for the 11th-longest in NCAA women's collegiate basketball history at any level. Over the 1080 minutes they have played this season, the Violets have only trailed for a total of 6 minutes and 58 seconds.
The Violets led 30-9 after the first quarter, 50-19 at halftime, and 70-26 after the third quarter.
Natalie Bruns filled up the box score for NYU, finishing with 23 points, six rebounds, nine assists, five blocks, and three steals.
Belle Pellecchia added 19 points and eight steals.
