Men’s Basketball Headed to Sweet 16

Violets Beat Host York (PA) on Saturday to Advance

The New York University men's basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16 of the DIII NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1993-94 campaign. The #1-ranked Violets defeated host York College 62-52 on Saturday, March 8, in York, PA.

The team's previous appearance in the third round was a part of its run to the 1994 championship game.

York scored the first three points of the game, but NYU went on an 11-0 run and took a lead it would never relinquish.

The Violets went on to lead 26-19 at halftime.

The Spartans pulled within 29-26 early in the second half, and were again within striking distance at 50-45 with just over five minutes left.

However, they never got any closer as the Violets held on and will advance to play either St. Thomas (TX) or Hardin-Simmons in the Sweet 16.

Tristan How led the Violets with 22 points, while adding seven rebounds.

Jack Stone was NYU's only other double-figure scorer, finishing with 11 points.

Emmanuel Onuama led NYU with 11 rebounds, while Brock Susko contributed five steals.

NYU will possibly host the following two rounds of the tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
