Women's Basketball is Final Four Bound

Violets Punch Ticket with Win Over Gettysburg

The New York University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 60 games and will head to the the NCAA Division III Final Four following its 76-51 victory over host Gettysburg College in an Elite 8 contest on Saturday, March 15, in Gettysburg, PA.

NYU (29-0) will now head to Salem, VA, to defend its national title.

Caroline Peper stepped up and scored a career-high 29 points in the victory, adding six rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

"This was a team effort," Peper said. "We pass the ball around real well and my teammates were able to find me."

The Violets never trailed in the contest after scoring the first seven points of the game.

NYU grabbed its first double-digit lead, 29-19, on Peper's three-pointer midway through the second quarter.

However, Gettysburg stayed within reach and pulled within 31-27 at halftime.

"The target's been on our back all year, and Gettysburg played phenomenal, especially in the first half," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "The environment tonight made it feel like a true Elite 8 game."

The Violets scored the first four points of the second half.

Still leading by six, 37-31, NYU ended the third quarter on a 21-9 run to take a 58-40 lead.

The lead ballooned to as many as 28 points, 70-42, on Belle Pellecchia's layup with 5:28 left in the game.

The Violets shot a blistering .575 (19-of 33) in the second half.

Pellecchia finished with 16 points (8-of-9 shooting), as did Natalie Bruns, who fell just short of a triple-double by adding nine rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and a block.

"Tonight is a moment for us to celebrate. We are thrilled to go back to the Final Four and have a chance at winning another National Championship," Barber added.
.
NYU will now face the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the National Semifinal on Thursday.
