A Violet Legacy Unleashed
Tear It Up!, an NYU Athletics tradition established in 2005, returns for the 2025-26 season! These events give new and returning members of the NYU community special opportunities throughout the academic year to cheer on their fellow Violets on the court, on the field, and in the pool. Tear It Up! Events will encompass all of our varsity programs, with Violets giveaways, food, and special guest appearances.
Tear It Up! Tip-Off
Friday, November 7 | John A. Paulson Center
Opening Night for Men’s Basketball is here! Coming off the second appearance in the National Championship Game in program history, the Violets are back and ready to light it up. Join us for the Tear It Up! Tip-Off celebration and get the season started the right way.

Opening Night Cookout
The excitement begins at 4:30 p.m. with a pregame cookout featuring hot dogs, snacks, and refreshments. Enjoy yard games, free Celsius cans, and a full dose of Violet spirit before tip-off.
NYU Men's Basketball vs. Old Westbury
When 6:00 PM hits, the Violets take the home court for an action packed season opener. he NYU Bobcat will be on hand, and halftime contests will feature the famous Bobcat Shirt and Bobcat bobblehead, and everyone in attendance will have a chance to win a pair of Brooklyn Nets tickets.
Free t-shirts and rally towels will be available in the student section, so get there early and represent the Violets loud and proud.
Bring your friends, wear your Violets gear, and pack the stands. Let’s Tear It Up! for opening night!
