Women's Volleyball Competes at Round Robin #3

Violets Face Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon

The New York University women's volleyball team competed at University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #3 on Sunday, October 26, in Chicago, IL.

The Violets faced Case Western Reserve University in their first match, and then #25-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in their second.

NYU dropped both contests, falling in five sets (25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 20-25, 18-16) in the opener and then in straight sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-20).

The match vs. Case Western Reserve was a back-and-forth affair, with the momentum changing each set.

In the deciding fifth set, the Violets fell behind early, trailing 6-2. However, a pair of Grace Nelson kills were part of a 4-0 NYU run and the Violets went ahead 11-9.

The Spartans scored the next two points and six more ties ensued. At 16-16, consecutive kills by Case Western Reserve gave them the match.

Against Carnegie Mellon, the Violets never led in the first set. NYU was ahead by as many as four points in the second set, but were unable to close it out.

The final set was tied 12-12, but the ranked Tartans scored the next seven points en route to clinching the victory.

Over the two matches, Chloe Lemons led the Violets with 26 kills, while Nelson added 22. Coco Barton and Chloe Hynes each had 15.

Ava Launsbach launched 42 assists against Case Western Reserve and added 18 against Carnegie Mellon.

Duru Topcu accumulated a team-high 23 digs over the two matches. Launsbach had 22 and Lemons added 21.

The Violets return to the court for Senior Day on Saturday, November 1. NYU will hosting Randolph-Macon College and John Jay College beginning at 9:00am.
