The
#16-ranked New York University wrestling team opened the new calendar year at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Challenge, hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday, January 4, in Chicago, IL.
The Violets claimed a win in their dual against Aurora College, 45-3, but fell to Augsburg University and Millikin University.
Harrison Gordon,
Tyler Kadish, and
Cooper Pontelandolfo all won each of their two bouts on the afternoon in the 125, 141, and 157 pound weight classes, respectively. Both Kadish and Pontelandolfo earned bonus points as well, with the former recording a major decision against Millikin and the later registering a tech fall against Aurora.
In NYU's dual against the Spartans, seven Violets collected bonus points, including pins by
Matthew D'Arcy and
Rex Jacops.
Trent Furman earned a pin in his 184-bout against Millikin.
The Violets will next compete on Saturday, January 11, when they take part in the Mariner Duals at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. NYU will face Plymouth State University and Norwich University.
