New York University's
top-ranked women's basketball team remained undefeated this season following its 76-49 victory over the University of Chicago on Friday, January 31, in the Windy City.
The Violets (17-0, 6-0) scored the first six points of the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest and never trailed in compiling their 48th-straight victory.
NYU's lead was 27-10 over the Maroons (12-5, 2-4) after the first quarter. The spread grew to 26 points at 41-15 before the Violets settled for a 43-24 lead at halftime.
The Violets shot 57.1 percent (16-of-28) from the field in the first half, while holding the Maroons to 32.3 percent (10-of-31).
Jamie Behar and
Natalie Bruns, each converted on five of their six shots, ending the half with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
It was 59-37 after three quarters, and the Violets went on to lead by a game-high 27 points at the end.
Behar and Bruns each finished with a game-leading 19 points. Behar also had a game-high 11 rebounds, with Bruns adding eight.
Mary Kate Fahey, a native of nearby Arlington Heights, IL, added 11 points as the Violets finished the game at 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the field.
"Flying out here and playing Chicago is always a tough out," said Head Coach
Meg Barber. "I thought we kept our composure for 40 minutes, and it always feels good to come out of here with a win."
The Violets stay in the Midwest for a game against #28 Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 12:00pm central time.
