The New York University men's and women's fencing teams were dominant on Senior Day, with both posting lopsided victories over Hunter College on Friday, January 24, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The men's team blanked Hunter 27-0, while the women only dropped one bout in their 26-1.
Prior to the matches, eight NYU seniors were honored:
Karina Dyner,
Hannah Hoverman,
Oliver Hu,
Bryce McClain,
Claudia Meyer,
Sharon Ni,
Annika Santos, and
Renee Wu.
Five members of the men's team posted 3-0 marks on Friday. All three saber fencers (
Jerry Pan,
Ansh Ghayalod,
Faaris Hussain) turned the trick, as did Hu and
Anup Banerjee in foil.
Both Meyer and Wu went 3-0 in foil, while Hoverman and Ni did the same in saber.
"This was a great way to honor our seniors with a performance like we had tonight," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton. "They all did well on the strip in their final home bouts at NYU. I'm happy that they were able to finish at home as winners."
Both teams are back in action next Saturday, February 1, when they travel to Cambridge, MA, to face Harvard University at 1:00pm.
