The
#3-ranked New York University's women's swimming team beat Gettysburg College 157-97 at home on Senior Day, Saturday, January, 18 at the Palladium Athletic Facility.
It was a quick turnaround for the team following duals against Williams College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Williamstown, MA, on Friday, January, 17.
"The team handled back-to-back meets really well," said Head Swimming Coach
Trevor Miele. "Winning every event today after racing yesterday shows how much effort they've been putting in."
Prior to the meet, NYU recognized the NCAA National Champions from last season, and presented four women swimmers with their championship rings.
Kaley McIntyre won three national titles at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships,
Caitlin Marshall won the 200 butterfly, and the two were accompanied by
Nicole Ranile and
Aanya Wala as he foursome won the 800 freestyle relay.
Seniors
Anna Li,
Caitlin Marshall,
Elle Motekaitis,
Isabel Oldham, and
Issara Schmidt were honored for their time and success in the pool.
"I'm sad to see them go," said Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean. "They've all progressed so much further than I could've imagined."
In Saturday's competition, Ranile claimed a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle by a margin of 18.25 seconds.
"It was an impressive performance — she controlled the race from start to finish," said Miele. "She followed it up with a dominant swim in the 100 fly, showing how tough she is as a competitor."
Li came in first in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes.
"She had a strong meet, with great swims in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke," said Miele. "As one of our graduating seniors, it's been amazing to see how much she's grown and contributed to the team."
McIntyre won her four events, including the 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard freestyle relay.
"Kaley's 200 back was a great swim," said Miele. "It's not one of her main events, so it was fun to see her take it on and put together a strong performance."
The Violets will return to the pool on Saturday, January 25, when they travel to West Chester, PA, to face West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
