The
#17-ranked New York University wrestling team dominated at the Mariner Duals, hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, defeating Plymouth State University and Norwich University on Saturday, January 11, in Kings Point, NY.
Opening the day against the Panthers, the Violets claimed pins in eight of the dual's 10 bouts. All nine of their bout wins resulted in bonus points.
Jacob Venezia highlighted the results with a pin in less than a minute in the 133-pound bout.
Overall, NYU defeated Plymouth State, 47-12.
Facing the Cadets in the following dual, the Violets continued their dominance with a 44-9 win. NYU won six bouts by pin and earned bonus points in a total of seven bouts. It took just 20 seconds for
Vincenzo Napolitana to pin Greyson Merola in the 149-pound bout.
Venezia, Napolitana, and
Tyler Kadish all claimed pins in both of their bouts on the afternoon. As a team, NYU won every bout in the 125, 133, 141, 149, 174, 184, and 197-pound weight classes.
The Violets will now return home to host the NY/PA Duals on Saturday, January 18, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
