The
#18-ranked New York University women's soccer team remains undefeated following a 5-1 win against the William Paterson University Pioneers on Wednesday night, September 18, in Wayne, NJ.
The Violets (3-0-3) scored three goals in five minutes in the first half, starting with forward
Hunter Hoelscher's shot into the top left corner in the 24th minute assisted by midfielders defender
Kelli Keady and
Hope Neale. Three minutes later, defender
Elizabeth Argenziano scored from the right corner of the penalty box to double NYU's lead, with
Yukino Wakatsuki on the assist.
Keady made it 3-0 with an emphatic goal from right inside the Pioneers half just before 30 minutes. She was assisted by forward
Izze Ching.
For the first 45 minutes, goalkeeper
Riley Felsher didn't have much to do as NYU stifled the Pioneers, not allowing a single shot while registering 23 at the other end of the pitch.
However, NYU was unable to shut out the Pioneers as the home team scored in the 68th minute against backup keeper
Mia Capo. William Paterson scored its consolation goal from right outside the box, but the Violets scored their fourth goal eight minutes later through a
Maddy Xiong shot from 18 yards out.
Midfielder
Allie Wall capped the Violets' five-star performance with seven minutes left with a goal from the same area where Hoelscher scored.
NYU out-shot William Paterson 36-2 overall, 23-2 on goal.
The Violets look to extend their unbeaten streak this Saturday, September 21, when the team travels to Poughkeepsie, NY, to play Vassar College at 12 noon.
