The New York University men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 6-3 on Sunday, April 14, in Rochester, NY.
NYU started off strong in the doubles rounds, with
Boren Zheng and
Alexander Lee winning 8-1 over their #1 opponents.
Jingyuan Chen and
Louis Frowein dominated the #2 match 8-2.
Captain Rumaish Khastagir (#4) started the singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Frowein and Zheng continued their win streak and cemented a victory for the Violets. Frowein claimed victory at #3 6-3, 6-3, as did Zheng 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the #1 match-up to put NYU up 5-1.
Rochester would win the next two singles matches, but
Devan Sabapathy (#5) came out on top 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.
"It was a good win against a nationally ranked team," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We have been close all year, and the team was very motivated to win this match against a UAA opponent."
NYU will be back in action on Friday, April 19, to face MIT at Cambridge, MA.
