The New York University baseball team raised its 2024 record to 5-0 with a 9-1 win over Vassar College on Friday, March 1, at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park on Staten Island, NY.
The Violets fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth, and added another in the fifth to take the lead and stay in front.
The Violets added two more runs in the seventh and eighth to complete the scoring.
Leading the charge offensively was lead-off hitter
Harrison Blueweiss, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases.
Cam Dunn and
Joe Cetale each had a pair of hits, while Cetale and
Max Oliveira each knocked in two runs.
Mason Morello was a stalwart on the mound. The Violets' starter went 7.1 innings, allowed five hits, struck out five and gave up the lone run.
Neither
Zack Cetin (0.2 innings) or
Ansel Balmer (1.0 innings) allowed a hit in relief.
The Violets return to action back at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park this Sunday, March 3, when they host Haverford College for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00am.
