Men's Volleyball Falls to Stevens

Violets Swept by #2 Team on the Road

The 13th-ranked NYU men's volleyball team was defeated 3-0 by second-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 14, at Stevens' Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ. 

The Ducks (14-1) swept the Violets (4-4) 25-22, 25-16, 25-20.

The first set was a close affair, with seven lead changes and 14 ties. NYU and Stevens traded points, as the gap between both teams was not greater than two. Stevens scored three unanswered points, taking the lead at 22-20. 

NYU managed to get one back, but the Ducks scored another two unanswered points to make it 24-21 through two errors. SIT closed the set out with a kill. 

The Ducks scored five unanswered points early in the second set to make it 7-2. Stevens held the lead for the rest of the set and scored another five unanswered points to make it 23-14. Two Ducks kills brought the match to set point.

NYU started the third set brightly, scoring four unanswered points to make it 6-2. Stevens closed the deficit, scoring four unanswered points, and taking the lead at 9-8. 

The Ducks didn't let go of the lead, although the Violets managed to tie the game at 16-16. However, Stevens went on multiple scoring streaks and took the lead to a five-point gap at 23-18. The Violets managed to come within two points twice, but two Stevens kills won them the game. 

Luke Boyer recorded eight kills to bring his season tally to a team-high 83. Ry Kagan added seven kills to move to second in the kill charts with 70. 

Zach Knudsen led the match in digs with nine, bringing his season total to 73 digs. Buddy Cohen also led the match in blocks with seven. 

The Violets face sixth-ranked Vassar College next in their first United Volleyball Conference game on Wednesday, February 21 in Poughkeepsie, New York.
