Wrestlers Compete at Roger Williams Duals

Violets Sweep All Three Matches

The New York University wrestling team faced three opponents at the Roger Williams Duals on Saturday, December 7, in Bristol, RI.

The Violets faced Western New England University, host Roger Williams, and Rhode Island College.

In the first match, NYU beat New England 43-6. The Violets then defeated Roger Williams 27-17 before completing the day's sweep with a 31-12 win over Rhode Island.

All-American Cooper Pontelandolfo won all three of his 157 bouts by technical falls, dominating his opponents by a cumulative score of 51-5.

At 184, Trent Furman recorded two falls and a major decision en route to his three victories.

At 125, Harrison Gordon won three bouts, two by fall.

Overall, the Violets won every bout from 125 through the 157 weight classes.

"It was good to come in and sweep these duals and finish the semester strong," said Associate Head Coach Corey Luce. "Hopefully, we can continue this momentum into the second half of the season."

The Violets will not compete again in 2024, but will resume competition on Saturday, January 4, when they take part in the UAA Challenge at the University of Chicago. NYU will face Augsburg University, Aurora University, and Millikin University.
