Women's Soccer Cruises Into NCAA Second Round

Violets Score Seven En Route to First Round Win

The #18-ranked New York University women's soccer team stormed into the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 7-1 win over Husson University on Saturday, November 16, in Newark, NJ, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

With a hat-trick on the day, Kelli Keady tied the program's all-time goals record of 32.

"It's super exciting," said Keady. "Getting to host the tournament again feels so special. This is just a special weekend because of the team."

Rena Kalargiros opened the scoring for the Violets in the 13th minute, burying a pass from Keady into the back of the net.

Less than a minute later, Keady scored her first goal of the match on an assist from Jessica Tonthat. In the 22nd minute, the senior sent ripples through the net for a second time, scoring an unassisted goal.

Carmen Cicerini tacked on a fourth goal in the 25th minute to cap off NYU's scoring in the first half.

With less than three minutes remaining until the break, the Eagles managed to pull within three with a goal off the foot of Kate Harriman.

Keady clinched her hat-trick in the 66th minute on an assist from Jessica Tonthat

Following a Marlee Scanlon goal in the 76th minute, Cicerini scored her second of the match on a pass from Isa Badillo with 20 seconds remaining.

Overall, seven different Violets either scored or assisted a goal on the day.

"We're pleased to move on to the second round," said Head Coach Scott Waddell. "We all knew we had what it takes to win the game, and we're happy to score seven goals as well."

NYU next faces the winner of Hardin-Simmons and McDaniel, tomorrow at 1 p.m. at NJIT.
