New York University's baseball team delivered a convincing, 14-3 victory over St. Joseph's University (Brooklyn) on Thursday afternoon at SIUH Community Park in Staten Island, NY.
Prior to the game, NYU held a Senior Day ceremony honoring the program's 12 graduating student-athletes:
Joseph Argenziano,
Nick Argenziano,
Joseph Augustine,
Dakota Barbet,
Russell Burton,
Ashwin Chona,
Ryan Carr,
John Gassler,
Will Cialone,
Tyler Offman,
Connor Roggero and
Tyler Judge.
Gassler got the start on the mound and struck out seven over his three shutout innings as head coach
Doug Kimbler split pitching duties between his five senior hurlers.
The Violets wasted no time getting on the board, scoring six in the bottom of the first behind a two-run home run from
Cam Dunn and two-run singles from both Cialone and Roggero.
Neither team pushed runs across in the second, third or fourth innings, but NYU made it 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth after Roggero and Burton each notched RBI singles.
Dunn drove in a run via sac fly in the seventh to make it 9-0 Violets while St. Joseph's plated all three of its runs in the eighth.
Then, in the bottom of the eighth, the Bears' pitchers struggled to find the zone as NYU scored three on wild pitches with two more runs coming on RBIs from Burton and
Mike Montenegro.
Judge then shut the door in the ninth as the Violets earned their 15th win of the season, improving to 15-16 with their sixth consecutive win against St. Joseph's in the all-time series.
Roggero finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs, Dunn drove in three and Burton and Cialone both had a pair of RBIs. Carr and
Nick Argenziano also picked up hits on Senior Day while Barbet walked twice and scored.
Joseph Argenziano secured the pitching win after tossing a shutout fourth and Chona posted a pair of shutout innings on the bump.
This was the final home game of 2023 for NYU as the team will conclude the campaign with a road doubleheader at Russell Sage College on Sunday, May 7, in Albany, NY.
