The New York University wrestling team defeated both of its opponents at the Metro Duals, hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), on Saturday, December 9, in Kings Point, NY.
The Violets,
ranked #14 in NCAA Division III, defeated host USMMA 35-14 and Hunter College 56-0 to improve to 5-0 in dual meets this season.
Jason Geyer (174) won both of his bouts by fall, including one in just 13 seconds against his Hunter opponent.
Taisei Kurachi (133) was also a double-winner, one by fall and one by decision.
At 184,
Trent Furman also won twice, one by fall and another by major decision (13-0).
Nick Kruczynski (141) was the other NYU wrestler who recorded two wins on the mat (fall, decision).
"It felt good to close out the first half of the season with two dual-meet wins," said Associate Head Coach
Corey Luce. "There are things we need to be better at and we will use these next couple of weeks to improve in those areas before we go out to Ohio. Overall, we are pleased with the effort this team has given us. We will use this momentum moving forward."
The Violets break until Saturday, January 6, when they compete at the UAA vs. OAC Challenge, to be hosted by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
