Women's Soccer Heading to Rochester for Sweet 16

Violets Take on Yellowjackets on Saturday at 1 PM

New York University's women's soccer team will travel to Rochester, NY, to take on University Athletic Association (UAA) foe University of Rochester in the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship tournament Round of 16 on Saturday, November 18, at 1 p.m.

The Violets, who are ranked 16th in Division III in the final United Soccer Coaches poll of the regular season, defeated Southern Virginia University, 3-0, in the first round before getting past Carnegie Mellon University, another of the seven UAA teams to receive tournament bids, 2-0 in the second round.

Rochester, ranked sixth in Division III, upended Penn State-Behrend in the opening round and defeated Misericordia University in the second round, winning both matches 2-1. The Yellowjackets enter the weekend unbeaten this year (14-0-5); NYU played them to a scoreless draw when the two sides met in the regular season on October 20.

In NYU's win over Southern Virginia, Makenzie Rodrigues netted a brace and Dominique Bevacqua provided the third goal with Gabriella Funk collecting two assists. Against the Tartans in round two, Kelli Keady found the back of the net twice while Funk recorded another assist to break the program's single-season record (11). Funk has also set program records in all-time assists (24) and points (82) this year and her 29 career goals are three away from tying the program's record.

Meanwhile, Keady's 14 goals in 2023 are tied for the program's single-season record. She and Funk were recently announced as First Team All-UAA honorees with both Bevacqua and stalwart center back and newly crowned UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week Eileen Xu earning Second Team recognition. Hope Neale and Riley Mullady received nods as All-UAA Honorable Mentions.

The Violets enter the Sweet 16 with a 14-2-2 overall record and are unbeaten in their last six outings. Also competing in Rochester are Tufts University and Bowdoin College, who will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with the advancing teams playing for a trip to the Final Four on Sunday, November 19, at 3:00 p.m.
