For the second consecutive week, the New York University wrestling team can call themselves champions.
After winning the Ned McGinley Invitational last week, the Violets doubled up on titles and won the Racich Rumble on Saturday, November 11, at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.
NYU won five brackets in totaling 179.5 points, well ahead of second-place Washington & Lee University (137) in the 14-team competition.
Individual titles were won by
Benny Bautista (125),
Jacob Venezia (133),
Cooper Pontelandolfo (157),
Nicky Bell (184), and
Jason Geyer (174), who won at Racich for the third time in his career.
In addition, two wrestlers finished as runner-ups:
Nick Kruczynski (141) and
Evan Anderson (285).
"Today was a great day. Having seven finalists and five champions makes a statement that we are one of the top teams in the country," said Associate Head Coach
Corey Luce.
NYU is
currently ranked #15 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). The Violets finished ahead of #6 Alvernia College, who placed fourth at the invitational.
"This is the first time we've won back-to-back tournaments," Luce added. "All of our champions were dominant."
The Violets return to the mat looking for a three-peat when they travel to the Doug Parker Invitational in Springfield, MA, next Saturday.
