#13 Violets Sweep Kean

NYU Now 2-1 in 2023

Nine different Violets contributed a kill as New York University's 13th-ranked men's volleyball team swept Kean University on Saturday afternoon in Union, NJ.

NYU (2-1) trailed for much of the first set, falling behind 10-4 early on. Still behind by three, 13-10, the Violets used a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the match. NYU never trailed for the remainder of the first as Ryan Li's kill secured a 25-22 win.

Kean (0-2) jumped out in front to start the second set as well, leading 4-1 before NYU scored six straight to regain momentum. The Cougars came back within one, 15-14, but NYU again scored five consecutive points to go up 20-14. The Violets went on to win the second 25-20, seeking their first sweep of the season.

A Kyle Rasmussen kill put NYU ahead 9-7 in the third, but Kean later tied the score at 12-12. The set remained close until Jake Upham's ace gave the Violets a 24-19 lead for match point. Kean then scored four straight points to make it 24-23, but captain Gautham Dasari delivered the decisive kill to give NYU back-to-back victories.

Dasari finished with a team-high eight kills (.286) with six digs, three block assists, three assists, and a pair of aces. Li posted a match-high 22 assists while he and Buddy Cohen had six kills apiece. Cohen contributed four block assists and an ace as well.

Zach Knudsen notched a team-high 10 digs, giving him double-digit digs in all three of NYU's matches this season.

Today's match ended the Violets' stretch of three straight on the road to start the year, next welcoming Hunter College to the Brooklyn Athletic Facility for the 2023 home opener on Tuesday, January 31, at 7:00 p.m.
