Women's Soccer Plays to a Tie at Vassar

Violets outshoot Vassar 13-8 in the draw

New York University's women's soccer team played its first road match of the season at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Sunday, finishing with a scoreless draw after 90 minutes of action.

The Violets are now 1-0-1 on the young season after defeating Mount Saint Mary College, 9-0, in the opener on Thursday night. In today's draw, NYU outshot the Brewers 13-8 and 5-1 in shots on goal.

NYU had a flurry of chances during a four minute span in the first half, but each attempt was either blocked or saved by Vassar's keeper. The Violets allowed just two shots from their opponents during the first 45 minutes, both coming before the 18th.

Riley Felsher saved the Brewers' lone shot on goal of the game, coming in the 86th minute as time started to run out.

Gabriella Funk, who scored twice in the season opener, had an attempt saved at the 86:02 mark in the Violets' final chance at breaking the gridlock.

Funk fired off a team-high six shots on the day, while Tate Jordan and Catie Collins attempted two each.

Felsher finished the game in net for NYU as Tyler Hawkins played the first half without seeing a shot on goal.

Next up for the Violets is a showdown with #2 TCNJ on Friday, September 9, as part of the Engineering Cup hosted by Stevens in Hoboken, NJ. Kick off is set for 5:00 pm.
