The New York University women's volleyball team completed play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Robin Robin #1 by defeating Carnegie Mellon University in four sets on Sunday, September 18.
Hosted by Washington University in St. Louis,
the #6-ranked Violets won their match against the Tartans 25-12, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21.
NYU (8-2, 2-1) eased to victory in the first set but were tested in the second by Carnegie Mellon (7-3, 1-2). The score was tied 17-17 when the Violets scored the next five points to take the lead for good.
The Tartans used a 7-1 run midway through the third set to grab a lead they never relinquished.
The Violets trailed in the final set by as many as four points and were still behind 21-20 before finishing the match on a 5-0 run.
Haley Holz led NYU with 14 kills, while
Leela Anvekar added eight and hit .316.
Nicole Dao (20) and
Dominique Drust (15) each had double-digit assists, with
Lindsey Hirano leading the way with 29 digs.
The Violets return to action on Friday, September 23, when they host Susquehana University. First serve is set for 7:30pm at NYU's Brooklyn Athletc Facility.
