The New York University Men's Volleyball Team lost 3-1 to host Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Saturday, April 2, in the Violets' final match of the regular season.
The Violets lost the first two games in close and hard-fought fashion, falling 25-23 and 25-21. In the third game, however, they rallied for a 25-21 victory. Then MIT returned to win the fourth game, and by extension the match, 25-22.
Ryan Whealen led the team in assists (38) and blocks (five). Offensively,
James Haag had 16 points and 13 kills on the day, and
Gautham Dasari recorded 14 kills.
"It was a very competitive match for both teams," Head Coach José Piña commented. "It was very close and the 3-1 final score was not totally reflective of how close the contest was. MIT's runs were a bit longer than ours and that was the definitive trend in all four games."
Heading into the postseason, NYU stands 9-10 overall and 3-4 in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play. NYU will take on Nazareth in the first round of the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) playoffs on Friday, April 8, hosted by SUNY New Paltz.
