Trio of All-Americans Highlights Final Day of NCAAs

Thomas Pritchard, Connor Vincent and Graham Chatoor earned All-America status in the 1650 freestyle for New York University on the fourth and final day of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN.

"I'm super proud of how we did tonight. I couldn't have asked for a better way to go out than dropping four seconds in my last race and having all of us come within 0.2 seconds of each other," said Chatoor, a senior who concluded his career tonight. "This team has been a cornerstone of my life for the last four years and I'm going to miss it, but I'm so grateful for the memories I've made."

Pritchard (15:18.22), Vincent (15:18.32) and Chatoor (15:18.42) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's mile to become All-Americans in the event. Chatoor led for much of the race before Kellen Roddy of Johns Hopkins University pushed ahead for the title. Pritchard and Chatoor also garnered All-America accolades in the 500 free on the first day of the Championships.

"Thomas, Connor and Graham have had their sights on this race all year and I'm so proud to see all three finish as All-Americans," said Assistant Coach Erica Belcher. "Watching them push each other day after day with this goal in mind has been so fun, and watching them accomplish this together today was the icing on the cake. They raced tough and all had killers last 50s, and I couldn't be more proud of all three of them and their performances this week."

For the women, a pair of individual swimmers became Honorable Mention All-Americans after qualifying for the consolation finals in their respective events. Caroline Gjerde finished 12th overall in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.15.

"Caroline had an amazing 200 back today," said Head Swimming Coach Trevor Miele. "She swam a great race and, as usual, finished strong. She has consistently been dropping time all year and it's a product of her hard work."

Ashley Brodnick was the other consolation finalist, placing 14th in the women's 1650 free as she completed the race in 17:15.16. The Violets' women's 400 free relay squad also received Honorable Mention All-America honors, coming in 13th overall. Isabel Oldham, Nika Kouznetsova, Maia McAllister and Jessica Flynn teamed up to finish the event in 3:26.56.

In total, six different Violets became All-Americans across eight events while 20 swimmers took home Honorable Mention All-America honors throughout 12 events at the 2022 Championships.

"I am really proud of our squad," Miele added. "They overcame a lot of challenges this year and they came through when it mattered. I'm sad to see our seniors leave but I'm super excited for next season. We have a lot of scorers returning and a great freshman class coming in."

NYU's men placed 11th out of 43 as a team with 106 points while Emory University won the team title (427.5 points). The Violet women finished 13th out of 46 teams with 117 points. Kenyon College won the women's team title, outpacing Emory by seven with 446 points.
