Wrestlers Finish 2021-22 with 16-3 Dual Record

#17 NYU Defeats Hunter and Host Trinity on Saturday

In a pair of dominating performances, the New York University Wrestling Team defeated host Trinity College and shutout Hunter College on Saturday, February 19, in Hartford, CT.

NYU lifted its final-season dual-meet record to 16-3 following the Saturday sweep for its highest win total since 2016-17 when the team finished 18-4 in duals. The squad was slotted at #17 in the NWCA's (National Wrestling Coaches Association) final regular season dual team rankings.

The Violets defeated Trinity by a score of 34-12, then blanked Hunter 53-0.

Anthony Chavez (149) and Trent Furman (157) recorded falls against both of their opponents. Both Chavez and Furman are ranked in the top six regionally in their respective weight classes.

Benny Bautista won both of his matches at 125, recording a fall and a technical fall.

Scott DuPont at 184 posted one fall while producing two wins.

Will Ortman, the fourth-ranked wrestler at 285 pounds in the Northeast, defeated the region's #3 heavyweight, Jacob Raboy of Hunter, in overtime.

"Nice two wins to close out our dual-meet season," said Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce. "We now turn our attention to the postseason."

NYU gets right back into action on Sunday when the squad competes at the Northeast Futures Tournament at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.
