The
#13-ranked New York University wrestling team won all three of its matches at the Roger Williams University Duals on Saturday, December 3, in Bristol, RI.
NYU opened the day with a 31-18 victory over #15 Rhode Island College. The Violets then defeated Western New England University 35-12 before completing the sweep with a 20-16 win over previously undefeated Roger Williams.
"I think our guys showed some resilience today," said Associate Head Coach
Corey Luce. "We went without a heavyweight and didn't have some of our key guys in the lineup."
It was a big day for a couple of the team's upper-weight wrestlers as
Jason Geyer (174) and
Matt Kelly (197) won all three of their bouts. Geyer produced two falls and a major decision in his dominant performances, while Kelly recorded one fall and two decisions.
At 184, Scott Dupont posted a pair of falls, while
Tyler Crew (133),
Luke DiGiovanni (149) and Hassan Kahn (157) also recorded two victories.
All-American Cooper Pantelandolfo also won two bouts, but lost to Rhode Island's top-ranked and returning National Champion Nathan Lackman by one point (3-2).
"That result just solidifies Cooper as a national contender," Luce added.
The wrestlers are back in action next Saturday, December 10, for a tri-match at the New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ.
