Women's Basketball Suffers First Defeat

Violets Beaten By Rochester 57-53

The #4-ranked New York University Women's Basketball Team suffered its first defeat of the 2021-22 season, falling to the University of Rochester 57-53 on Friday, January 28, in Rochester, NY.

The Violets (14-1, 5-1) led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter and still led by three, 40-37, heading into the fourth.

However, the Yellowjackets (12-5, 4-2) used a 9-0 run to erase a 42-37 deficit and the Violets were never able to reclaim the lead.

"Rochester did a great job competing for 40 minutes," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "It was a tough battle on the road and I'm proud of how hard we fought."

INSIDE THE GAME:

- NYU's Jordan Janowski led all scorers with a career-high 20 points. She played 39 minutes and added six rebounds, two steals and an assist.

- Natalie Bruns led NYU with eight rebounds.

- The Violets were held to a season-low point total.

SUMMING IT UP:

"Our youth caught up with us tonight, and hopefully we will learn from this and take advantage of our next opportunity on Sunday," Barber added.

NYU is now tied for first place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with Emory University, and the two teams meet this Sunday, January 30, with undisputed possession of first place on the line. Tipoff in Atlanta, GA, is set for 2:00pm.
