Wrestling Rolls Over USMMA 34-6

NYU Now 12-1 in Dual Meets

The New York University Wrestling Team is on a roll.

NYU's grapplers won their eighth straight dual meet and improved to 12-1 this season with a 34-6 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday, January 25, in Kings Point, NY.

NOTABLE:

- The visitors won eight of the 10 bouts.

Nick Kruczynski (Natick, MA/Natick) (133) recorded a fall over Cameron Pleninger.

- Cooper Pontelandolfo (Marlton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) (165)  posted a technical fall over Eric DeWald

- Trent Furman (Washington Township, NJ/Westwood Regional) (157) and Matt Kelly (Katonah, NY/Iona Prep) (197) each won by major decision.

- NYU's only loss this season was a close 18-16 decision to Johnson & Wales on December 11.

QUOTABLE:

"From top to bottom we wrestled well," said Assistant Coach Anthony Dattolo. "We looked fresh even though we wrestled three teams on Sunday. Our guys have been showing a win-at-all-costs attitude, and it's showing on the mat."

NYU returns to action this Saturday, January 29, and hosts New Jersey City University in the squad's home opener at 1:00pm at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
