After a home win over Swarthmore on Friday, New York University's Women's Soccer Team fell to The College of New Jersey, 4-0, on Sunday, September 12, in Hoboken, NJ. The Lions are ranked ninth nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Women's Division III Preseason Poll.

"TCNJ was a tough opponent and it's a good experience for us to have early in the season," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "We had some positive moments and we'll look to keep building on them."

The Violets' defense kept TCNJ (4-0) at bay for most of the first half until Rachel Robichaud finished a pass from Ava Curtis in the 39th minute to break the gridlock. NYU (1-2) was held to just one shot in the first half while Maggie Albunio (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) picked up two saves in the opening period.

Gianna Coppola made it 2-0 with a header just six minutes into the second half, once again assisted by Curtis. In the 66th minute, Emma Pascarella maneuvered past her defender and connected on a shot into the back right corner of the net for a 3-0 lead.

Another header goal from the Lions just before time expired gave TCNJ a 4-0 victory.

Sydney Jo Presnell (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) and Catie Collins (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) led NYU with two shots apiece as the Violets attempted seven second-half shots but couldn't find the back of the net. Albunio totaled six saves in her first collegiate loss.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Drew University for another non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 4 pm.
