The New York University Women's Soccer Team completed its 2021 season with a 2-1 loss to Brandeis University on Saturday, November 6, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets (8-7-1, 1-5-1) trailed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest 2-0. However, at 63:52,
Gabriella Funk (Fremont, CA/Irvington) sent a perfectly-placed through ball to
Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy), who converted from deep in the box to the far side.
That score cut the Judges' (11-4-2, 4-3-0) lead in half. But, despite some pressure on Brandeis goalkeeper Hannah Bassan, NYU could not net the equalizer.
Brandeis took the lead 25 minutes into the game on a goal by Sydney Lenhart, assisted by Caroline Swan. The Judges doubled their lead early in the second half (49:43) when Ruby Siegel scored off a feed from Lauren Mastandrea
Prior to the game, NYU honored its six seniors who were playing the final game of their collegiate careers:
Lauren Goodrich (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo),
Spritle Hirano (Seattle, WA/West Seattle),
Nikki Lee (Hillsborough, CA/Crystal Springs Uplands School),
Sam March (Glastonbury, CT/Kingswood Oxford School),
Ellie Marks (Seattle, WA/University Prep), and
Rachel O'Keefe (Shrewsbury, MA/Worcester Academy).
The Violets have posted seven consecutive winning seasons and ninth overall during Head Coach Michelle Canning's 10 seasons.
