The New York University Women's Soccer Team played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Emory University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest played on Sunday, October 31, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
Playing its penultimate game of the season, the Violets (8-6-1 overall, 1-4-1 UAA) assured themselves of the program's seventh consecutive winning season and the ninth under Head Coach
Michele Canning.
"I thought this was a better overall performance than on Friday," said Canning, whose squad defeated the University of Rochester 1-0 two days ago. "We're pleased with the components of the performance, but unhappy that we couldn't finish."
NYU did produce its share of opportunities, recording 12 shots overall and nine over the second half and overtime periods.
However Emory's (11-4-2, 2-3-1) goalkeeper Emma Miller turned aside all five shots she faced. Miller played the second half and the overtime periods, while Emma Platt played the first 45 minutes without facing a shot.
For the Violets,
Riley Felsher (Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day School) was forced to handle five of the 11 shots the Eagles took and recorded saves on each one en route to posting her second shutout of the weekend.
Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and
Gabriella Funk (Fremont, CA/Irvington) each totaled three shots for NYU, while Aubrey Blanchard recorded the same total for Emory.
"When we had our chances I think we could have been a tiny bit sharper with the quality of the shooting," Canning admitted. "We also had a couple of heading opportunities, but we were just off target."
The Violets will play their final game of the season on Saturday, November 6, when they host UAA-foe Brandeis University. Kickoff for the Senior Day affair is set for 11:00am at Gaelic Park.
