The New York University Women's Soccer Team recorded its first University Athletic Association (UAA) win of the season, defeating the University of Rochester 1-0 on Friday, October 29, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
In a tightly-contested game throughout, the Violets (8-6 overall, 1-4 UAA) were able to net the only score of the contest.
Izze Ching's (Fairfax, VA/Oakton) blast, a shot from 10 yards out to the upper right corner of the net, resulted in the game's only goal. She was able to convert off of a touch pass from
Ellie Marks (Seattle, WA/University Prep) in the box at the 40:25 mark.
The Yellowjackets (6-4-4, 0-2-3) kept the pressure on in the second half. After only recording two shots in the opening half they added nine in the second.
Rochester pounded the NYU net down the stretch, putting three shots on goal in the final five minutes.
However,
Riley Felsher (Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day School) was up to the task, spearing all three and holding on for her sixth shutout of the season. The Violet goalkeeper recorded four saves overall as NYU was out-shot by Rochester 11-6.
"I kind of have some sort of tunnel vision on the ball, just kind of blocking everything out," Felsher explained. "And, after I know that I have my hands on the ball then I can take a breath and look to see who's around me and tell them to take a breath also."
Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) had two of NYU's four shots on Rochester keeper Emma Schecter.
The Yellowjackets finished with a slight edge (3-2) in corner kicks.
The Violets return to action this Halloween Sunday, October 31, and host another UAA opponent, Emory University, at 11:00am back at Gaelic Park.
