New York University's Women's Soccer Team concluded its Midwest road trip with a University Athletic Association (UAA) tilt at the University of Chicago on Sunday, October 17, in Chicago, IL.
Despite two first-half goals from the Violets (7-6, 0-4),
#9-ranked Chicago came away with a 4-2 victory, improving the Maroons' record to 11-1-2, 2-1-1.
Peyton Jefferson opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the contest, finishing a pass from Nicole Kaspi for her sixth tally of 2021.
The hosts' advantage grew to 3-0 in a seven-minute span, including a conversion off a corner kick.
New York kept fighting and got on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when
Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) netted her second goal of the year off an assist from
Gabriella Funk (Fremont, CA/Irvington).
The Violets came within one, 3-2, when
Nikki Lee (Hillsborough, CA/Crystal Springs Uplands School) converted a penalty kick just seven minutes before intermission.
That score held through most of the second half, but Josie Majowka put the game away with a late unassisted score (74') to seal the 4-2 win.
Chicago out-shot the Violets 15-9 and led 8-6 in corners. Funk (three) and Lee (two) led NYU in shot attempts while
Riley Felsher (Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day School) made four saves in defeat.
The Violets return home on Friday, October 29, hosting another UAA foe in the University of Rochester. Kickoff is slated for 11:00 am from Gaelic Park.
