The New York University Women's Soccer Team suffered a 2-0 loss to University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, October 15, in St. Louis, MO.
The
#3-ranked Bears' (10-0-1, 3-0 UAA) Erin Flynn scored both of her teams' goals in the first half. She scored unassisted just 1:35 into the game, then doubled Washington's lead at 38:30 off a feed from Gaelen Clayton. The two tallies tied Flynn for the team lead with three goals on the season.
The Violets (7-5, 0-3) clamped down the rest of the way, but could not put any of their nine shots past Bears' keeper Sidney Connor, who was forced to make only one save.
NYU's goalkeeper,
Riley Felsher (Pennington, NJ/Princeton Day School), faced nine shots on goal and made seven saves.
Overall, the Violets were out-shot 13-9, while both sides were awarded four corner kicks.
Gabriella Funk (Fremont, CA/Irvington) led the Violets with four shots,
Dominique Bevacqua (Parsippany, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) had two and
Julie Beedle (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) registered NYU's only shot on goal.
"We played well," said Head Coach Michelle Canning. "The difference was that they finished their chances and we didn't."
The Violets return to action this Sunday, October 17, when they play another UAA contest, this time at the University of Chicago. Kickoff is set for 11:00 am central time.
