Men's Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

Violets Defeat Baruch 3-0

The New York University men's volleyball team defeated Baruch College in three sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-19) on Tuesday, February 4, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility (BAF) in Brooklyn, NY.

NYU, ranked #4 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), remained unbeaten this season. The Violets are now 5-0, while the Bearcats fell to 3-4.

The Violets never trailed in the first set. Leading by only one, 11-10, NYU's 8-1 run produced an insurmountable lead.

The second set was a lot tighter, though the Violets never trailed. With the score tied 18-18, a pair of Baruch errors handed NYU the lead for good.

The Bearcats took their first lead of the match by scoring the first point of the final set. However, the Violets answered with the next five and never relinquished the lead. They went ahead by as many as seven points before Justin Jin's (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) kill ended the match.

"This was a continuation of us playing well as a team," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "We're playing at a high level and that's what we've been preaching to the players. We need to be strong and play hard against every team."

Evan Lindley (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) finished with a match-high eight kills for NYU, hitting at a .583 clip. Neil Ferraro (Newton, MA/Xaverian Brothers) and Gautham Dasari (Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista) each had five.

Matin Bikdeli (Irvine, CA/University) contributed a match-high 29 assists.

Overall, NYU hit .397 compared to Baruch's .107.

"We were able to play lots of guys and give others a rest," Pina added. "Everyone performed and did a good job tonight."

The Violets are right back in action this Thursday, February 6, when they host Hunter College back at the BAF. First serve is set for 7:00pm.
