The New York University men's volleyball team, currently ranked #3 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), upped its 2020 record to 9-0 with a road victory over Bard College on Wednesday, February 19, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Violets took the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) matchup in three sets: 25-6, 25-13, 25-11.
There was not much drama in the match, as NYU is now a perfect 3-0 in the UVC while Bard fell to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Matthew Noel (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) and
Kyle Rasmussen (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park and RIver Forest) each led NYU's all-around effort with nine kills each.
Tyler Flood (Corona del Mar, CA/Corona del Mar) and
Robbie Allen (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) each added seven as the Violets hit .448 overall.
Ryan Li (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) had a match-high 26 assists for NYU, while
John Arege (Little Silver, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) led the way with 10 digs.
"It was s good team effort tonight," said Head Coach
Jose Pina. "Most of our first-year players got the opportunity to play and performed very well. It's a good win as we prepare to face the number-one team in the nation on Saturday."
The Violets return to action this Saturday, February 22, when they face SUNY Potsdam (5pm) and top-ranked Springfield College (7pm) in a tri-meet in Springfield, MA.
